              The Lower School

The Lower School is dedicated to creating opportunities for creative learning within a structured and challenging environment.  Every student is encouragted to value learning, to explore the world around him, and become an participant in the education process.  Saint Albans teachers emphasize critical thinking skills and diverse approaches to problem solving.

The Kindergarten program is designed to help children build on their prior knowledge and experiences, form concepts, acquire foundational skills, and form positive attitudes to learning as they begin to develop their goals for lifelong learning. It is also designed as the foundation for a continuum of learning from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
At Saint Albans we recognize that each child learns differently and we therefore provide a supportive, engaging environment with activities and experiences that can be tailored to a child's individual learning style. Our kindergarten programme offersa strong academic program that builds a solid      foundation  for Grade 1 including a small class size with a maximum of 12 students, a highly qualified, enthusiastic teacher, a fully equipped learning facility including a bright classroom, activity room, and quiet playground, hands-on learning activities, organized lessons in dance, music and French, fieldtrips; and volunteer opportunities for parents.

              Grades One through Four

Grades One through Four introduce students to reading, writing, and arithmetic, to science, the arts, and to the very nature of school work, the habits of study, and cooperation. From the start students, do a considerable amount of creative writing, including poetry. The essentials of mathematics will be taught with a view toward making every student competent and confident in the use of maths concepts.    Saint Albans' approach to learning is traditional in nature.  We eschew edcuational fad and fashion.  As an independent school, we reject the idea of "teaching to the test."  Instead, we offer a balanced, rigourous, and traditional curriculum, one that provides students with the knowledge and skills  to make them productive, successful and engaged citizens.
